Cathora

Terms of Use

The agreement between you and Cathora. Please read it; we have tried to keep it plain.

Last updated 29 September 2026.

These terms are an agreement between you and Amaete Venture Studios, [Entity type — to confirm], [Registered address — to confirm] (“Cathora”, “we”, “us”). They apply to cathora.com, the web app at app.cathora.com and the Cathora apps for iPhone, iPad and Android (together, “Cathora”). By creating an account or using Cathora you agree to them, to our Community Guidelines, and you acknowledge our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use Cathora

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms for you. You may not use Cathora if we have previously removed you from it, or if the law forbids it.

2. Your account

Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account. One person per account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. During the beta, Cathora is by invitation.

3. Not a substitute for the Church

Cathora is a companion for prayer and formation. It is not the Sacrament of Confession or any sacrament, not spiritual direction, pastoral care or counselling, and not an official publication of the Catholic Church. Where Cathora explains Church teaching we try to say so and cite it; we distinguish it from pious tradition and from Cathora’s own reflections and applications, which are labelled as ours. Bring questions of conscience and faith to a priest. Nothing in Cathora is medical, legal, financial or professional advice. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services.

4. Your content

What you write in Cathora (journal entries, intentions, prayers, posts, comments, testimonies, messages and profile) stays yours. So that we can run Cathora, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display and deliver your content, only to provide Cathora to you and to the people you choose to share it with, and to moderate it. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups until they rotate out and content others have already saved or shared themselves.

You confirm you have the right to share what you post and that it follows these terms. Don’t post other people’s private information, including their intentions or confessions, without their permission. Testimonies must not make medical claims or promises of healing.

5. Community conduct and zero tolerance

Cathora’s community is for charity and truth. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You agree not to post or send anything that is:

  • harassing, bullying, threatening, hateful or demeaning towards anyone, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, disability, age or religion;
  • sexually explicit, pornographic or sexually suggestive, or that sexualises anyone under 18 in any way;
  • violent, promoting self-harm, or glorifying or encouraging crime;
  • spam, scams, pyramid schemes, or unsolicited advertising (business opportunities belong in Opportunities, honestly described);
  • false or misleading, including impersonating a person, a priest, a parish or the Church;
  • someone else’s private information, or content you don’t have the right to share;
  • malware, or attempts to break, overload, scrape or get around Cathora’s security or privacy protections.

Cathora automatically blocks some objectionable words, and our moderators remove content and accounts that break these rules. The full expectations are in the Community Guidelines.

6. Reporting, blocking and moderation

Every post, comment, testimony, shared intention, conversation, company listing and profile has a Report option, and you can Block any member, which hides their content from you and stops messages between you. Reports are private. We review reports promptly, aiming for within 24 hours, and we may remove content, stop content from being shared, suspend or permanently remove accounts, and where appropriate inform the authorities. We are not obliged to monitor everything and are not responsible for what members post, but we act on what we find and what is reported.

7. Cathora’s content and sources

Cathora’s design, software, text, recordings and original art are owned by Amaete Venture Studios or its licensors and protected by law. You may use them only within Cathora for your personal, non-commercial prayer and study, and you may share prayers with others using the share buttons. Many prayers, Scripture passages (Douay-Rheims) and works of sacred art in Cathora are in the public domain; we credit sources where we can. City data is from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and maps from OpenStreetMap contributors. If you believe something in Cathora infringes your rights, write to [email protected].

8. AI-drafted content

Some editorial pieces are drafted with the help of AI and are labelled as AI-drafted until our editors review them. AI can make mistakes; read such content with care and in the light of the Church’s teaching. No member data is used to generate it.

9. Price and subscriptions

Cathora is free during the family beta. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you in advance, show the price and terms clearly before you buy, and nothing will be charged without your agreement. Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are governed by their terms and are managed and refunded through them. Founding Member credit has no cash value.

10. Apps from the App Store and Google Play

If you downloaded Cathora from Apple’s App Store, you and we agree that:

  • these terms are between you and us only, not with Apple, and we (not Apple) are solely responsible for the Cathora app and its content;
  • your licence to use the app is a non-transferable licence to use it on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions (the app may also be used by other accounts in your Family Sharing group);
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
  • if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to conform are our responsibility (to the extent these terms do not exclude them);
  • we, not Apple, are responsible for any claims by you or others relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws;
  • if anyone claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim;
  • you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
  • questions, complaints or claims about the app go to us (see Contact below);
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, Apple may enforce them against you.

If you downloaded Cathora from Google Play, Google’s terms also apply to your download, and Google is not responsible for the app. Where these terms conflict with the store’s mandatory terms, the store’s terms apply to that extent.

11. Ending

You can stop using Cathora and delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy and data (see also how to delete your account). We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, if we must by law, or if we stop offering Cathora; where reasonable we will tell you and give you a chance to export your data. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 4, 7, 12 to 14) survive.

12. Disclaimers

We work hard to make Cathora reliable and accurate, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy (for example of liturgical dates, readings, prayer times or parish information) or uninterrupted service. Features may change. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, and our total liability to you for all claims about Cathora is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and USD 50. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. If you live in the UK or EU, you also keep your statutory consumer rights.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [State — to confirm], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be decided by the courts located there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts and under your local law. Please contact us first; most concerns can be resolved quickly and kindly.

15. Changes

We may update these terms as Cathora grows. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Cathora after that, you accept the new terms; if you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
